It's a story that has caused a lot of controversy.
Judge Abel Limas, who presided over the 404th State District Court, plead guilty in a federal racketeering case.
The Cameron County District Attorney's office told Action 4 News they are reviewing two criminal cases to see if the defendants knew about the illegal activity.
"If it is found that they did participate, we will be moving to revoke their cases and have them sent to penitentiary” said Sam Smith with the district attorney's office.
Last month, Limas admitted to taking bribes in exchange for judicial favors.
Smith said they are currently working on better procedures to prevent this from happening again.
He said it's their jobs to search for the truth and when judge Lopez won Limas's seat, they asked for her to look into the case.
Right now, the U.S. Attorney's Office is handling the Limas case.
However, smith said they will be asking for any evidence they may have to help them investigate the two criminal cases.
Smith calls this a disturbing incident that has happened, but has faith in the judicial system.
"That’s one judge and there’s 11 other judges in this county we deal with on a daily basis and they’re doing a great job” he said.
Court records show that limas is scheduled for sentencing on July 5th.
The former judge faces 10 years to life in prison and a $4,000,000 dollar fine.
