Rio Grande City leaders voted on Tuesday to suspend their police chief and city manager amid a sexual harassment scandal.
It all started with a sexual harassment lawsuit filed in McAllen's federal court two weeks ago.
This lawsuit outlines the claims a former city worker has made against the men.
In this lawsuit, the alleged victim claims City Manager Juan Zuniga made numerous advances towards her.
It states that the advances began in the summer of 2007 while both the alleged victim and Zuniga were attending a conference in Wimberly, Texas.
According to court documents, the victim denied his advances numerous times but Zuniga became frustrated and allegedly retaliated against her.
She claims Rio Grande City Police Chief B.A. Piper also made advances and when she said no, both he and zuniga allegedly conspired to have her arrested under false charges.
The woman claims that's when she was falsely accused of felony theft, arrested, and fired from her job in the planning and zoning department.
Those charges against the alleged victim were later dropped.
City leaders met on Tuesday and decided to suspend both Zuniga and Piper with pay.
The lawsuit remains pending in McAllen's federal court.
