Two Rio Grande Valley natives are among the Lone Star State's 44 newest Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers.

Both Juan M. Arevalo of Monte Alto and Jose L. Sosa, Jr. of Brownsville officially graduated from the (DPS) training program on Thursday morning.

Arevalo, Sosa and the others were honored at a graduation ceremony at the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin.

DPS officials report that Arevalo will be assigned to the agency's McAllen office.

Sosa will be assigned to the DPS office in Rio Grande City.
