A neighborhood is on alert and two schools were placed under lockdown after a human smuggling suspect escaped from authorities near McAllen's federal courthouse.
The daring escape happened late Monday morning.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Victor Alfredo Arraiga-Chavez was being transported to a court hearing when he escaped from authorities.
Authorities are searching the area surrounding the courthouse putting two nearby schools under lockdown.
The 20-year-old Mexican national was arrested near Mission on Thursday after acting as a guide for a group of 34 illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central America.
Court records show that Arraiga-Chavez has had as many as 10 arrests for guiding illegal immigrants.
Arraiga Chavez allegedly claimed to a juvenile during those previous arrests.
Authroties describe Arraiga-Chavez as a 20-year-old weighs 105 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.
He was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.
