The Cameron County Sheriff's Department has arrested a third of three suspects in the murder of a Rio Hondo Independent School District teacher.

Investigators told Action 4 News that 37-year-old Daniel Lopez of San Benito is the third of three suspects in the death of teacher Sonia Perez.

A deputy found Perez's body in her van late Thursday night.

Authorities arrested her husband Julio Cesar Perez and gunman Gabriel Apolinar Escalante over the weekend.

Investigators said Perez allegedly hired Escalante and Lopez to kill his wife.

A motive is not clear but the case remains under investigation.

Public records show that Lopez has a criminal history that includes convictions for assault, marijuana and evading arrest.

The records show Lopez was serving five years probation for the evading arrest charge at the time of Perez's murder.

Lopez's last known address was listed as 20342 Highway 281 in San Benito.

The home is located near the intersection of South Sam Houston Boulevard and Highway 281.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Gus Reyna told Action 4 News that Lopez was arrested early Monday afternoon.

Details about Lopez's arrest were not immediately available but Lopez is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday morning.
