Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace is off the bench following her Tuesday evening sentencing in an official oppression case.
A Hidalgo County jury convicted Palacios back on March 11th with two counts of officials oppression.
Both the jury and Palacios returned to the 398th State District Court on Tuesday for her sentencing on Tuesday morning.
Palacios was accused of misconduct in her truancy court for area schoolchildren.
The jury heard the testimony of 22 witnesses and decided late Tuesday afternoon to give her a $4,000 dollar fine for each of the two counts.
As part of her sentence, Palacios must give stop her work at Precinct 4, Place 2 Justice of the Peace.
Jurors had also given Palacios 30 days in jail, which was probated meaning she will serve probation instead of jail.
The length of time on probation will be determined during an April 5th hearing.
A lawsuit against Palacios remains pending.
