A Harlingen man is behind bars after he allegedly attacked a woman inside her home, took her backpack and went on a shopping spree with her credit cards.

Harlingen police arrested 32-year-old Juan Antonio Garza on aggravated robbery and credit card abuse charges.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the incident happened off the 500 block of Jade Drive on the city’s northside around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said Garza broke into the home, assaulted a 63-year-old woman and took off with her backpack.

Paramedics rushed the woman to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen where she was treated for her injuries.

Investigators said police arrested Garza after he used one of the woman’s credit cards around 12 p.m. Wednesday.

Garza appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Thursday morning where he was issued $1,000,000 dollars in bonds.
