Hurricane season may be three months away-- but that's not stopping Cameron County officials from getting citizens prepared.

Wednesday afternoon they announced that cell phone numbers can now be added to the reverse 9-1-1 system.

The phone system-- allows the county to relay important information to residents in mass quantities.

Prior to today, only those with landlines were able to register for the service.

If you would like to sign up for the reverse 911 calls to your cell phone, you can head to Cameron County’s Emergency Management website.
