Authorities are looking for two young men who tried to rob a shoe store in Weslaco at knifepoint but got spooked by questions from employees and customers.

It all happened at the  Payless Shoe Source at 701 N. Texas Blvd. at 2:25 p.m. Saturday.

Weslaco police told Action 4 News that the two men walked in the store, approached the cashier, displayed knives and demanded cash.

The cashier, along with some customers, responded with questions asking, “What’s going on?”

The suspects seemed shocked by customers’ reactions and fled the store without any money.

Police said they were last seen walking west from the store.

The suspects are described as two Hispanic males, between late teens and early twenties, thin, 5 feet, 9 inches tall to 6 feet tall.

They wore hoodies, blue  jeans, tennis shoes and bandannas – one blue and one red.

One male had a dark complexion while the other one had a light complexion.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Weslaco Crime Stoppers at (956) 968-TIPS or (956) 968-8477.
