Authorities are investigating the cause of a brush fire off a busy highway that was fueled by dry conditions and fanned by high winds.
The fire is located near Military Highway and South 23rd Street around 11:33 a.m. Monday.
Investigators said it all became next to an apartment complex off Sarah Avenue and winds spreads the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but authorities said the flames consumed up to 30 acres of land.
Among the property damaged by the fire were junkyard where burning tires sent thick plumes of black smoke into the sky.
No businesses or buildings were burned by the fire, which was reported to be completely under control around 4 p.m. Monday.
Firefighters from McAllen, Mission, Hidalgo, Palmview and San Juan worked together to put out the blaze.
Border Patrol agents and a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter were also called to the scene.
Authorities reopened roads in the area, except for the South 23rd Street frontage road with Military Highway -- which remained closed.
South 23rd Street is a busy traffic corridor between the Tamaulipas border city of Reynosa and McAllen.
