At least six gunmen are dead in a series of armed clashes in Valle Hermoso and other Mexican border cities over the weekend.

Mexico's Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) confirmed the battles in a statement released Monday evening.

SEDENA officials reported that soldiers got into a firefight with armed men in the border town of Ciudad Mier on Sunday.

Three gunmen were killed in the battle.

Soldiers reported killed another three gunmen in a separate battle that same day in Rio Bravo.

SEDENA officials confirmed that soldiers came under fire from armed men in Valle Hermoso on Sunday.

No casualties were reported in Valle Hermoso but soldiers reported seizing ammunition and four cars. One of them had been reported stolen.

Mexican soldiers reported seizing drugs, guns, ammunition and vehicles in other incidents in Rio Bravo, Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo on Saturday and Sunday.
