Two charged for robbing teens in north Weslaco neighborhood

A Weslaco man and a juvenile accomplice are facing criminal charges after they allegedly robbed two teens in the city's northside.

Weslaco police arrested 26-year-old Bruce Lee Mendez and a 15-year-old accmoplice on aggravated robbery charges on Monday evening.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the two are accused of robbing two 16-year-old boys outside the Westgate Village Subdivision around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The teens told police that Mendez came at them with a crowbar demanding, "Empt your pockets."

His 15-year-old helper allegedly circled the boys, kept them from running and asked them, "What's your shoe size?"

Mendez told the teens to leave after they handed over their cell phones.

Police found Mendez and the 15-year-old off Corpus Christi Street.

Mendez appeared appeared before a Weslaco municipal court judge on Tuesday morning where he was issued a $50,000 dollar bond.

Authorities did not release the name of the 15-year-old accomplice but said he was an African-American male from Edinburg who was released to the custody of his parents.
