Kitchen cops in Port Isabel dropped the hammer on a dirty diner busted with roaches, ants and other health code violations.
Costa Del Mar on 201 N. Musina Street was shut down for 6 days following an initial inspection report that netted 37 demerits.
The eatery failed a second re-inspection.
In addition to insect contamination, the Food Patrol exposed how the restaurant was caught with a cross-contamination of chicken and fish, a freezer not working properly and missing thermometers to check for proper food temperatures.
The owner’s sister, who was working when the Food Patrol arrived, admitted the high number of demerits was “embarrassing.”
Inspectors allowed Costa Del Mar to reopen after a third inspection cleared the business of all violations.
That was six days later.
