A hair salon in Edinburg goes up in flames and firefighters suspect arson.
"This is what I live out of," said Joe Colunga, employee at Mr. Albert's Hair Center.
He's worked there for 7 years.
"We depend on this job," said Colunga.
He supports his wife and three kids as a barber, so news that this hair salon went up in flames has shook Colunga.
"You know...I'm pretty sad," said Colunga.
Edinburg firefighters said the call came in just before 12:45 Thursday morning.
They received a call that smoke was coming from the salon on 18th Avenue and Cano Street in Edinburg.
Once they examined the area, they noticed there was fire coming from the back wall.
"They got it under control," said owner David Martinez.
Martinez was notified of the fire, and after trained dogs with the Hidalgo County Fire Marshal's Office sniffed around, firefighters determined arson could be the cause of the fire.
"Everybody has people that don't like you and stuff like that, so at this point, I don't even know what to say or what to think," said Martinez.
But Martinez said he won't let this get him down.
"We're not gonna shut down," he said. "We're gonna keep working. We're gonna try our best. We're gonna do whatever it takes."
He is determined to fix the place up and continue working with his employees.
Martinez said this fire didn't only affect him but 20 other families, but now, these families stand united picking up the pieces so that they can get back to work.
"Cleaning up, you know helping each other out, so we can speed the process because you know, we need to get back to work," said Colunga.
Mopping, picking up debris and rebuilding the burned wall all in teamwork to repair the damage.
"However long that takes, we'll find a way to get to work here," said Martinez.
That's something Colunga said he hopes happens soon for his sake and for the sake of the 19 other employees at Mr. Albert's Hair Center.
Fire investigators have sent samples to the lab.
They said the results could take up to two weeks.
