Justice has been served for Treviño family of Hidalgo County after the man responsible for killing three generations was sentenced to life in prison on Monday.
Jaime Treviño lost three family members in February.
"Nothing will be the same," Treviño said. "It never is."
It's something he said he lives with every day.
"You try to forget but it always comes up," said Treviño.
Especially during the holidays.
"I caught myself trying to buy some Christmas gifts, and I had to stop and put everything down because they're not there anymore," said Treviño.
Jaime and his remaining family sat united as they waited to hear the sentencing of the person responsible for killing his three family members.
Jose Luis Tovar was fleeing the scene of a burglary when the 20-year-old crashed head-on with the vehicle that was carrying five family members of the Treviño family, killing three and injuring two.
Tovar pled guilty to taking the lives of 49-year-old Irma Treviño, 13-year-old Fabiana Treviño and 25-year-old Rafaela Treviño.
Tovar testfied that he wished he could go back in time and apologized to the victims' families.
It was an emotional day in court for the Trevino family as they remembered the tragedy.
The Treviño family said the youngest killed that fateful day would've turned 14 this past Friday. They celebrated it at the cemetary.
"It was hard. It was hard doing that," said Treviño. "She was looking forward to a Quinceanera coming up."
And although Tovar still has his life, he'll be spending it behind bars.
"He took the wrong choice and now he's got to pay the consequences," said Treviño.
Tovar will be serving 22 years and three life sentences in prison concurrently. He won't be eligible for parole for 30 years.
