Child rape suspect arrested outside San Benito High School

A man wanted in a child rape case from Fort Worth is behind bars and facing extradition following a Tuesday afternoon traffic stop.

San Benito Consolidated Independent School District police arrested 33-year-old Jose Angel Resendez around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

School district officials told Action 4 News that Resendez went to the school to pick up a relative.

A background check during the traffic stop revealed he was wanted in an aggravated sexual assault of a child case by the Fort Worth Police Department.

School district officials said Resendez was arrested and taken to the Cameron County Jail without incident.

Jail records show that Resendez remains in custody under a $25,000 dollar bond but faces extradition to Fort Worth.
