For Alma Lerma Monday morning started with a regular trip to the ATM.

But after she found out about a robbery that occurred at Bank of America, a place she trusts to keep her money safe, Lerma’s demeanor changed.

"This is terrible!” Lerma said.

Right now, the way things are, you can never know when you’re going to get attacked.

I’m surprised a hold up happened at such a busy intersection.”

Brownsville Police said a man went into the branch located at the intersection of Boca Chica Boulevard and Old Port Isabel Road at about 9:30 a.m. handed a note to the bank teller demanding money.

Even though the man got away with a stash of cash, surveillance cameras captured a clear image of him.

"The individual that went inside the bank was said to be about 20 to 30 years of age, 160 to 170 pounds, about 5'7 or 5'8, with a go-tee and a mustache, wearing a gray hoodie and a black cap," Garcia said.

Brownsville Police said the suspect drove-off in a silver Pontiac Grand Am and headed north on Old Port Isabel Road.

Investigators said there was possibly a getaway driver as well.

Lerma said these are hard economic times for everyone and no matter what the reason behind the robbery, she said it's not fair for those who have worked hard to earn their money.

"I’m going to be scared because you come to the bank and you don't even think twice,” Lerma said. “You feel safe and then you go and find out something like this."

Brownsville Police said when going to the bank people should always be aware of their surroundings and be on the lookout for suspicious people.

Anyone with information on this crime can contact Brownsville Crime Stoppers at 546-TIPS.
