The search is underway for the captain of a Brownsville-based shrimp boat that sunk off the coast of Galveston early Thursday morning.
Three crew members on board were pulled to safety and taken to the hospital, where they were treated for hypothermia.
The U.S. Coast Guard told Action 4 News they received a mayday call from the Mario Arturo II at around 3:15 a.m. about the boat taking in water.
They were able to trace the call to the boat’s location, some 10 miles off the Galveston jetties.
But by the time they arrived, they said the boat had already sunk.
The three crew members were taken in, but the fourth member of the crew, the boat’s captain, is unaccounted for.
The Coast Guard confirmed that he is from the Brownsville area, but they are not releasing his identity or that of the other crew members.
At this time, they have two aircrafts and a small boat searching for the man.
Action 4 News will post more information as it becomes available.
