An Edinburg C.I.S.D. police officer is free on bond following his weekend arrest on a drug possession charge.
Mark Leal was arrested early Saturday morning by a Palmview police officer.
A report released to Action 4 News indicated he was pulled over for allegedly speeding along Veterans Boulevard near Bentsen Palm Drive.
He showed signs of intoxication, according to the report.
The arresting officer said he found cocaine under Leal's driver's seat during an inventory check.
The report stated the drug weighed 1.2 grams.
The 36-year-old was later cleared of a potential DWI charge after passing a breath test.
Leal is a truancy police officer at the district.
He works closely with Edinburg truancy cases out of Judge Mary Alice Palacios' courtroom at precinct 4, according to a representative for the justice of the peace.
She said he did "not" work for the county.
Edinburg's school district attorney, Jacques Trevino, said he could not comment on a pending personnel matter.
The officer-in-question could face disciplinary action at Tuesday evening's school board meeting which begins at 6 o’clock.
