Shootouts reported south of the border put two international crossings in Starr County under alert on Wednesday afternoon.

Starr County Sheriff Rene Fuentes told Action 4 News that his office received reports about a drug cartel battle south of the border in Miguel Aleman.

Fuentes said the shootout forced authorities to temporarily close the Roma International Bridge for between 30 minutes to one hour late Wenesday afternoon.

Another shootout was reported in Nueva Ciudad Guerrero, which is located on the Mexican side of the Falcon Dam border crossing.

Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo reported that there were reports of heavy gunfire coming from the Mexican side of the dam.

Mexican officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Rick Pauza told Action 4 News that customs officers were advised of the situation.

But Pauza said the northbound nor southbound lanes of the American side of Falcon Dam and Roma International Bridge remained have been open all day Wednesday.

According to the Border Bridge Wait Times website, one lane is open at the Roma International Bridge and there are no delays in crossing.
