After almost two months of investigation, Brownsville Police Chief Carlos Garcia is speaking out about the gruesome murders of two men off FM 511 and U.S. Expressay 77/83.
“We believe they're linked to the Gulf Cartel,” said Garcia.
Back in September, authorities did not want to comment on whether the murders of Omar Castillo Flores and Juan Perez-Chavez could be related to spill over violence from México.
It's a different story now.
“So definitely, this would be a one of those cases where you can actually say this an example,” Chief Garcia told reporters on Friday. “This is one case you can relate to tie back to violence spill over."
Police told Action 4 News that the murders were in retaliation to the death of well-known cartel member, Alberto Castillo-Flores, also known as "El Beto Fabe."
Authorities say "Fabe" was once involved with the Gulf Cartel, but apparenlty turned against them.
“Whatever happened after the death of Beto Fabe and probably in retaliation by family members against the cartels themselves prompted them to do that…to kill every family member they knew existed,” Chief Garcia said.
According to police, "El Fabe's" brother, Omar Castillo-Flores was inside the bullet-riddled vehicle.
Evidence discovered at the scene, pointed detectives to two suspects from Nuevo Laredo: Gilberto Preciado-Franco and Roberto Magallon-De Luna.
Gilberto Presedio had been arrested in the past for the offense of murder in Laredo, Texas but charges were dissmissed due to lack of evidence.
Police said the two suspects were allegedly hired to kill the two men found in this truck.
Both suspects are still at large and wanted on murder charges.
Officers said the two should be considered armed and dangerous.
“We do have to be concerned but I just want to make sure that that concern shouldn't translated on turned into fear,” Chief Garcia said.
