Three men are behind bars following a brief car chase and foot chase that yielded crack cocaine.
Harlingen police told Action 4 News that it all happened near South E Street and Tyler Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Witnesses at the nearby AutoZone and Don Beto's Restaurant said they saw it happen.
Investigators said it was all part of a drug bust.
Police tried to pull over their maroon Ford Expedition on the 500 block of Harrison Avenue but it slowed down and then took off into an alley.
The car stopped over by South E Street and Tyler Avenue.
Harlingen police arrested the three following men:
- Jose Esteban Cordova, 21
- Pedro Antonio Reyes, 19
- Steven Ray Mata, 19
All three men are behind bars under third-degree felony possession of a controlled substance charges after authorities found 1.7 grams of crack cocaine inside the SUV.
Driver Pedro Antonio Reyes is also charged with state jail felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle.
Passenger Jose Esteban Cordova is charged with misdemeanor evading arrest after fleeing on foot.
All three men appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge where they were issued bonds ranging from $10,000 to $19,700 dollars.
Under Texas state law, carrying one to four grams of a controlled possession substance is considered a third-degree felony.
The crime is punishable from two to 10 years in prison and/or a $10,000 dollar fine.
