A judge in Mexico is ordering the suspected drug cartel leader known as “La Barbie” to remain in jail for another 40 days.

According to the Associated Press, Edgar Valdez Villareal has been in custody since August 30th in Mexico City.

The Laredo, Texas native is accused of smuggling thousands of pounds of cocaine into the United States.

Authorities say La Barbie played a lead role in the battle for control of the Beltran Leyva cartel, following its leader’s death in December.
