Bobbi Garcia never that she would be in the position she is in today.
“My husband went to prison and I lost everything,” said Garcia. She said she had no home, car or money, and four children to support.
“It’s hard,” said Garcia. “I mean day by day not knowing if you’ll have a meal for your kids and what will come next.”
During those tough times she did find a place willing and able to help her.
“If there was not a place like this there would be a lot of people that would not eat and don’t eat,” said Garcia.
Everyday the Salvation Army can see anywhere from 75 to 100 people walk through their doors for lunch and supper.
But unfortunately, like those they serve, the Salvation Army now faces their own crisis—a $49,000 deficit.
“That impacts all of our programs,” said Major Dan Ford.
Ford said they spend about $1,400 a day on meals—that adds up to about $42,000 a month.
“If we just had a $100,000 from the community to use—that money is double by government funds.”
But they do not have those funds and cannot get government assistance without money to back it up.
“That’s the dilemma that we have,” said Ford. “We don’t have the funds to spend to even utilize the government funds. We’re in danger of losing thousands of dollars in funds if we can’t find help from the community.”
