The City of San Benito is pushing to get an ordinance passed to ticket restaurants that fail to comply with health inspector orders.
Currently, there is no recourse on the books in San Benito that would lead to fines against establishments as with other Valley cities.
The Food Patrol exposed how Rodriguez Grocery on Ratliff in San Benito kept its kitchen area open despite an inspector order to shutdown back on August 13th.
Jerry Delgado, San Benito's Chief Inspector, said he found 24 demerits.
The violations included a roach infestation.
He felt public safety was at risk and instructed the business to close the kitchen until a re-inspection.
The convenience store's owner, Gloria Rodriguez, said she was never personally told to close.
Reports obtained by the Food Patrol showed how the order was given and signed by a cashier on duty at the time.
