11-year-old boy smuggled at Roma bridge

A woman from Roma is expected to face a federal judge after she allegedly tried to smuggle an 11-year-old boy into the the United States.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested 19-year-old Soraida Ivette Moreno on human smuggling charges late last week.

The 19-year-old woman drove up from Mexico at the Roma International Bridge this past Wednesday.

Moreno allgedly claimed the boy was her cousin and showed customs officers a Houston birth certificate.

Custom officers learned the boy was an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

Court records filed in the case show Moreno told investigators she was supposed to get paid $2,500 dollars to deliver the boy to Houston.

Moreno appeared beofre U.S. Magistrate Judge Peter Ormsby on Friday.

Public records show that she's an American citizen who lives off Jardin Street in Roma.

Judge Ormsby denied bond for Moreno until a Tuesday morning hearing.
