15 tortured bodies found in San German

Mexican authorities are investigating the deaths of 15 people whose bullet-ridden and tortured bodies were found just a couple of hours south of Matamoros.

The El Universal newspaper reported that the bodies were found around noon on the highway to Ciudad Victoria.

The Mexican newspaper reported that the bodies were left on the highway in the Rancho San German, a rural community just north of San Fernando.

El Universal reported that 13 men and two women had been killed.

The newspaper reported that the had been shot and tied.

El Universal reported that the bodies had the letter "Z" marked in black on their bodies.

The newspaper reported two of the bodies were found completely nude.

The gruesome follows the discovery of another 12 bodies in the rural community of Las Yescas, between Matamoros and Valle Hermoso.

The region is embroiled in a brutal war between former allies the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas.
