Some are calling San Benito Police Chief George Gomez’s decision, to suspend Assistant Chief Arnold Garcia for three days after not completing a random drug unfair.
“It makes the city look bad,” said San Benito resident Antonio Gomez.
Action 4 News just received 2 letters of “No Confidence” from the city of San Benito requested since last week.
The city secretary only released it to us today after the city attorney, Jan Cassidy, failed to answer our open records request.
Cassidy instead provided that letter first to another media outlet.
She has also repeatedly ignored our request for interviews related to this ongoing investigation.
One letter signed by 17 San Benito officers back on June 25th states "they have no confidence in Assistant Chief Garcia and call his actions out of line."
They also said “Garcia's excuse of needing time to prepare for the drug test is completely ridiculous and ignorant."
The letter also questions Police Chief George Gomez’s behavior stating “he is not capable of carrying out the duties as chief."
In a more recent letter dated June 28th 3 other officers called the incident a '"slap on the hand" and blame Gomez and Garcia for creating a "hostile working environment” that has ultimately lead to losing confidence in both supervisors.
Furthermore, the letter also points out an unnamed city shop employee who refused a drug test and was “immediately terminated."
In the end the San Benito officers who signed the letter finished off by stating quote, "now our public trust is lost."
