Nine young people from Harlingen are facing a wide range of criminal charges after police busted an alleged party with liquor and beer inside McKelvey Park.
Patrol officers found five young men and four young women inside the park around 10:27 p.m. Tuesday.
Investigators said the group was found in possession of beer and liquor.
All of them were charged with the possession and consumption of alcohol within the a city park.
The suspects are all from Harlingen and ranged in age from 17 to 27 years old. Police identified them as:
Cutberto Mendoza, 17
Jamal Brown, 17
Adam Diaz, 17
Victoria Berlanga, 17
Vanessa Mendoza, 18
Stormi Diaz, 19
Jazzmin Latoya Brown, 19
Alejandro Guajardo, 20
Christopher Butler, 27
All of them except Butler were charged with being minors in possession of alcohol.
Police said Butler was also charged with driving around a barricade.
Investigators said Mendoza was found with marijuana and had an outstanding warrant for public intoxication.
Police said Jazzmin Latoya Brown had outstanding warrants for traffic violations.
Jamal Brown had an outstanding municipal court warrant for disorderly conduct.
All nine appeared before a Harlignen Municipal Judge on Wednesday morning.
Authorities have been concerned about safety in McKelvey Park due to elevated water levels in the Arroyo Colorado.
Officials are diverting floodwaters to the Arroyo Colorado and other outlets to alleviate flooding in the Rio Grande.
The river has risen to dangerous levels following heavy rains from Hurricane Alex and Tropical Depression Two.
A hike and bike trail at the rear of McKelvery Park along the Arroyo Colorado has been underwater for the past three weeks.
