Emotions ran high as Sandra Reyna was escorted into a La Villa courtroom.
Reyna wore a bullet proof vest, because of numerous threats against her life.
Earlier Friday morning Reyna’s expression was emotionless as she was into a police car.
During the arraignment police had to physically hold her up as reality of what happened set in.
Reyna and her boyfriend, Adan Acuna, who are both charged with capital murder, were both denied bond.
"We are about fifteen to twenty miles from the border,” said La Villa Chief Eloy Cardenas. “When you're dealing with capital murder you're dealing with a high flight risk."
Police said the crime happened Tuesday, after Austin Contreras was brought to Knapp Medical Center—dead on arrival.
Police said he had numerous bruises over his body. Acuna was taken into custody for the murder, but in a turn events he was not the only one.
Reyna is now also charged with her son’s brutal murder.
Despite the charge, Reyna’s mother said her daughter could not have committed such a crime.
"She was a great mother to the kids,” said Debbie Brennan.“She dressed them, fed them.....she took them places...she just wanted to make a better life for them."
Brennan said her daughter was a good mom.
"She's not bad she's a good mom,” said Brennan. “That's all I know. I raised her and I’ve seen these kids...they've always been happy and never complained to me."
But despite these claims, both Reyna and Acuna will face capital murder charges of a child too young to fight back.
