KINGSVILLE, TEXAS (AP) -- A 1-year-old girl has died after police say she was left in a hot car for about 45 minutes in Kingsville.

Kingsville Police Chief Ricardo Torres says the child's mother had just returned home from picking up her children when she mistakenly left the toddler in the family car Wednesday afternoon.

A neighbor tried to revive the child, but she was pronounced dead at Christus Spohn Hospital-Kleberg in Kingsville.

No charges have been filed, but the case has been turned over to the district attorney for Kleberg County.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports the temperature about 5 p.m. Wednesday, when police were called, was 91 degrees with a heat-index reading of 102.
