LYFORD -- A Raymondville man is in critical condition following a gang fight Sunday morning at the Guadalupe Cemetery in Lyford.
According to Lyford Police Chief Paul Campbell, the 25 people involved in the fight were from two rival gangs in Raymondville.
During the brawl, a 21-year-old man was stabbed numerous times in the back. He was lying next to the graves of the cemetery when he was found.
He was taken to a Harlingen area hospital, where he is recovering.
Chief Campbell said the fight broke out over a Facebook comment.
“He claims that his colors on Facebook were disgraced by another gang member,” Campbell said. “Well he didn’t like that, so he called the victim up and they began to argue and after a short argument over the phone they decided to meet here at the cemetery and have a brawl.”
This is the first act of gang-related violence Campbell has seen since he took over as Lyford police chief back in December, he said.
No arrests have been made at this time, but the case is under investigation.
