A San Benito teen is behind bars after being accused in an animal cruelty case involving his grandmother's dog.

San Benito police arrested 17-year-old Jerome Huerta on criminal mischief and animal cruelty charges on Wednesday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Huerta allegedly kicked his grandmother’s 12-pound mix breed dog at her home on the 300 block of South Austin Street.

Police said he attacked the animal to exact revenge on his grandmother, who had blamed him for a broken water pipe.

The dog is said to be okay but Huerta was locked up in the Cameron County Jail under $5,000 dollars in bonds as of Thursday morning.
