A Brownsville teen accused of gutting a puppy has been sentenced to 18 months in jail after pleading guilty to one count of animal cruelty.
The Brownsville Herald is reporting that 19-year-old Mario Alberto Gasca appeared before Judge Janet Leal with the 103rd State District Court in Brownsville on Thursday morning.
The Herald reported that Gasca pleaded guilty to one count of animal cruelty.
Action 4 News first reported back in December that Gasca used a pair of gardening shears to stab and gut a neighbor's puppy in an act of retaliation.
Both he and alleged co-defenendant Jesus Javier Martinez were later indicted on on animal cruely and tampering with evidence charges.
The Herald reported that Judge Leal sentenced Gasca to 18 months in a state jail facility.
The newspaper reported that Gasca will be credited for time served at a Cameron County jail, which ends up being about 106 days.
