San Benito firefighters told Action 4 thick smoke from a grassfire was to blame for a deadly pile up in San Benito.
Fire Marshall Henry Lopez told Action 4, 8 vehicles were involved in the wreck near Pennsylvania and FM 732 this afternoon.
According to Lopez a controlled burn got out of control that caused thick smoke in the area.
That’s when a driver lost control and died.
The victim is believed to be in his 30’s.
In total about 8 vehicles were involved in the crash causing several to be hospitalized with unknown injuries.
The fire marshal said while the land owner did have a burn permit for sugar cane the winds may have been too high to act.
