Rio Grande Valley residents are receiving emails with copies of a supposed confidential law enforcement bulletin warning of a “nacroshowdown” to take place south of the border this weekend.
The supposed Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) intelligence bulletin was supposedly sent to law enforcement officials and “leaked” to the public.
Action 4 News received an Adobe PDF copy of the document from an anonymous viewer who wanted to know if it was real or a fake.
The bulletin warns that this weekend will be “one of the most violent in Mexican history” as a drug trafficking organization plans to wipe out its rivals once and for all.
The identity of the drug trafficking organization is not clear but their email asks people to avoid wearing black or dark colors because that is the color what their gunmen will be wearing.
The bulletin warns that the warning could be false because drug cartels are now using false rumors as part of a psychological warfare strategy.
Action 4 News spoke to the DPS officials about the bulletin.
DPS officials would not confirm or deny the authenticity of the bulletin saying they do not discuss law enforcement communications.
An agency spokeswoman recommended contacting local law enforcement agencies for information about possible regional issues and reiterated that U.S. State Department has already issued a travel advisory for Mexico.
Action 4 News spoke with local law enforcement officials who said would not comment on whether or not they received it.
The local law enforcement officials said Valley residents should already be aware about the dangers of traveling in Mexico.
