The winning $266 million dollar ticket was purchased in Pico Rivera, California

Weeks of anticipation leading up to a $266 million dollar jackpot in the Mega Millions lottery ended on Tuesday night.

Officials with the lottery announced that a single winning ticket was purchased in Pico Rivera, California.

Organizers are expected to post information about the winner later.

The winning numbers in last night's drawing are 9-21-31-36-43 with a Mega Ball of 8.

Lottery officials released the following breakdown for winners:

The lottery starts again at $12 million dollars with a drawing on Friday.

Grand prize winners to the lottery must match five numbers and a sixth "Mega Ball" to win the full amount.

Paying $1 dollar extra allows players to pick a Megaplier of 2, 3 or 4 can double, triple or quadruple their non-jackpot winnings.

The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately 1 in 175 million while the odds of winning any of the Mega Millions prizes are approximately 1 in 40.

Mega Millions is played in Texas, 37 other states and the District of Columbia.
