MCALLEN, TEXAS -- More than 200 people rallied against Arizona's new immigration law in McAllen on Saturday morning.
The rally was part of 100 other similar protests around the country.
The McAllen march was organized by several pro-immigrant rights groups.
Protesters arrived waving United FarmWorkers flags, as well as homemade signs lashing out againt Arizona Senate Bill 1070.
Many of the participants also carried signs asking for immigration reform.
Several local and state leaders, such as Hidalgo County Judge Rene Ramirez and Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, showed their disapproval of thecontroversial law.
No counter demonstrators were on hand at the protest, but there were several individuals who were in support of the Arizona bill.
The new legislation allows law enforcement officers to ask for proof of citizenship, and arrest individuals who cannot provide the appropriate documentation.
Critics of the law fear this can lead to racial profiling.
