MCALLEN, TEXAS (AP) -- A former south Texas bank vice president has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from her clients' accounts.

U.S. District Judge Randy Crane sentenced Emma Vigil to 51 months in prison on bank fraud charges Friday.

The 47-year-old McAllen resident also must pay nearly $590,000 in restitution to her victims.

Prosecutors said Vigil not only debited her clients' accounts, but also made sure her fraudulent loan application for $179,500 was approved.

Vigil had been an employee of Lone Star National Bank for 14 years before she was fired in 2008.
