An Action 4 News viewer calls for action after he claims the polling place he was trying to vote at in Rio Hondo had a plastic bin to hold ballots.
We went to Rio Hondo’s City Hall to find out what was going on.
David Longoria is the election judge overseeing early voting at that polling location and says there was a problem with one of the locks on the steel ballot box and therefore he was instructed by the Cameron County Elections Administrator to use a plastic bin as a temporary box with a seal over it.
Longoria says the viewer who called us was the only person during the time the actual ballot box was unusable who attempted to vote and decided to come back later in the day.
Longoria says shortly after he called for assistance in unlocking the actual ballot box, someone showed up with the right key to get it open and voting resumed as normal.
He says at no time were any ballots in jeopardy of being tampered with and under no circumstances were any laws broken.
