Two men are expected to face a federal judge after being arrested for allegedly buying AK-47-style weapons for Mexican drug traffickers.

Agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) arrested Gammon Cole Perry and Anthony Villarreal last week.

The two men are accused of buying high-powered weapons for Mexican drug traffickers.

Court records filed in the "straw purchasing" case show that Perry admitted to buying between 16 and 20 AK-47 style weapons that were supposed to be smuggled into Mexico.

Records show that Perry's last purchase at Glick Twins gun store in Pharr.

Perry told investigators that a man only identified as "Chuy" paid him $400 to $500 dollars for each weapon.

ATF agents allege that Villarreal also bought one AK-47 and a 9mm handgun for "Chuy".

Court records filed in the case show that the type of weapons they bought in Rio Grande Valley gun stores are "extremely desired" by drug trafficking organizations in Mexico.

Both Perry and Villarreal allegedly admitted to knowing  "Chuy" was involved in trafficking guns into Mexico.

The two men apeared before. U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos in McAllen on Thursday.

Court records show that both men are United States citizens.

Judge Ramos ordered that they remain in custody until a Tuesday morning hearing.
