John Wood won the Democratic Party's nomination to face Republican incumbent Carlos Cascos in the November election for Cameron County Judge.
Both Wood and former Brownsville mayor Eddie Treviño, Jr. faced each other and another candidate in a three-way race for the Democratic Party's nomination in March.
The March Primary ended in a runoff between Wood and Treviño.
The former Brownsville mayor got more votes than Wood in the March Primary but the tables turned during the Tuesday night runoff.
Wood, who serves as a Cameron County Commissioner, ended the night with 4,948 votes, or about 52 percent of the ballot.
Treviño received 4,524 votes, or about 48 percent of the ballot.
The Tuesday night victory secured Wood the Democratic Party's nominee for Cameron County Judge.
Wood will now face Republican incumbent Carlos Cascos in the November general election.
