Court records released on Thursday show that a man who allegedly threatened three Rio Hondo churches claimed to be “God’s messenger”.
Rio Hondo police arrested George Jasso under a terroristic threat charge earlier this week.
Jasso appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Patricia Edelstein on Thursday.
Court records released in the case show that Jasso admitted to writing the letters.
Jasso allegedly told investigators that he was “God’s messenger” and that God was going to punish man for breaking the Ten Commandments.
Investigators allege that Jasso sent threatening letters to La Trinidad Assembly of God, First Baptist Church and St. Helen's Catholic Church in Rio Hondo.
The letters allegedly involved possibly causing harm to people at a church on Easter Sunday.
Investigators also charged Jasso’s son Andrew Jasso for terroristic threats.
Andrew has been in jail since February for an assault of a public servant, evading arrest and resisting arrest case but admitted to signing the threatening letters.
When asked if his father was capable of violence, Andrew Jasso allegedly replied that his “father was crazy” and gave it a “fifty-fifty chance”.
Both George and Andrew Jasso remain in custody at the Cameron County Jail.
