It's out with the old and in with the new.

The government is helping Texans save big if you buy new energy efficient appliances.

It's an attempt to help thousands of families trade up their less efficient appliances for newer energy saving appliances.

"I want to take advantage of this opportunity that the government and stores are giving to trade up my washing machine," said Leticia Garza in Spanish.

Leticia Garza said her washing machine is 10 years old and needs an upgrade.

"More than anything to save energy because old appliances waste more energy, and the new ones are more energy efficient and save you money," said Garza.

Garza said she'll register for one of the 23 million dollars worth of rebates the government is providing for customers throughout Texas.

The rebates are on a first-come, first-serve basis, so when the money is gone, the program is over.

Sears at La Plaza mall is just one of the many appliance stores that will open their doors bright and early to help customers register for the rebates.

Doors open Wednesday at 6 a.m. and customers can start registering at seven.

"Customers are more than welcome to be here at 6. We'll be taking appointments," said Sears manager Zaira Chequer. "We'll be helping them through the process to make it a lot easier for them."

If you want to get in on the rebate, you have to buy your appliance between April 16 through the 25.

During this time, some stores are offering big deals, slicing prices from 45 dollars to 1,600 depending on the appliance that they're purchasing.

And if you recycle your old appliance, you can get an extra 75 dollars.

If you don't want to go to an appliance store Wednesday morning to register, you can register for the rebates online or over the phone.

Head to www.texaspowerfulsmart.org or call 1-877-780-3039 at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.
