MOBILE, ALA. (AP) -- A Texas man has been sentenced in Mobile to 46 months in federal prison for attempting to smuggle military-grade rifles and grenade launchers to Mexico for use by a drug cartel.

Arick Andre Dube pleaded guilty in December to exporting munitions from the U.S.

The 28-year-old Dube, of Mission, Texas, tried to buy dozens of arms in March 2009 from a man in Mobile, who turned out to be an undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.

The weapons were bound for Los Zetas, described by federal officials as the enforcement arm of the Gulf Cartel.

Dube was arrested on Aug. 5 as he was preparing to pick up the shipment.
