One soldier, one civilian killed in Reynosa battle

A Thursday afternoon gun battle between the Mexican army and armed civilians ended with one soldier and one cilivian being killed.

Reynosa City officials put out a warning about a "situation of risk" involving Mexican soldiers in the Colonia Cumbres around 3:25 p.m. Thursday.

According to the city's Twitter page, the incident is taking place at the intersection of Avenida Mil Cumbres and Avenida Central.

The populous neighborhood is sandwiched between two major highways in the city's westside.

Reynosa city officials lifted the alert around 6 p.m. Thursday.

Tamaulipas State Police officials reported on their website that the incident was a shootout between Mexican soldiers and armed civilians.

State officials reported that one soldier and one civilian were killed in the incident.

Tamaulipas State Police did not release names of those killed but reported that the case is being investigated by federal authorities.
