The American Consulate in Nuevo Laredo remains open for business following a massive battle nears the border city’s zoo.

According to reports, the battle took place near Boulevard Colosio and the zoo.

The consulate advised Americans living or visiting Nuevo Laredo to take shelter.

The Dallas-based WFAA-TV reported that the violence is the result of a feud between former allies Los Zetas and Gulf Cartel.

WFAA reported that police stations along the border have been attacked during the recent upsurge in violence.

Action 4 News spoke with a regional consulate spokesman Brian Quigley in Monterrey.

Quigley said the consulate in Nuevo Laredo remains open for business as usual.

But Quigley said a consulate office in Reynosa will remain closed until further notice.

The Reynosa office, which only hands services for American citizens living in the Reynosa area, was closed following a round of drug-related violence.

Quigley said the American Consulate in Matamoros remains open for business as usual.

A bomb scare in Ciudad Juarez briefly shut down the American Consulate in Ciudad Juarez but nothing was found.

Quigley said that the consulate in Ciudad Juarez is also open for business as usual.
