A new study finds that many women have a lot to learn when it comes to heart disease.
Many don't know the basic symptoms of a heart attack and others try to heed off heart problems with unproved therapies.
The classic symptoms of a heart attack are heaviness in the chest, shortness of breath, sweating, pain radiating to the jaw or down both arms.
But 15 to 20 percent of women will never experience those telltale signs, which can make it hard to know exactly what's happening to them.
The new study, called Go Red for Women, shows almost half of those polled didn't know the symptoms of heart disease or that it is the number one killer of women, and when it comes to prevention, many seek help from therapies that aren't scientifically proven.
69 percent believed multivitamins help prevent heart problems.
29 percent said aroma therapy was a preventative strategy.
