More than 300 people, including many law enforcement officers, came together Saturday to help out a border patrol officer and his ill daughter.

Every mile the participants of MIA, Motorcycles In Action, covered, helped raise funds for 4-year-old Mia Salazar, who suffers from leukemia.

"She's fighting a pretty bad infection and also pneumonia," Roel Rodriguez told Action 4 News.

Rodriguez is a close family friend, and also Mia’s father’s co-worker with the Border Patrol.

He said the entire family is currently beside Mia at a San Antonio hospital.

"They're doing ok,” he added. “It’s been a very rough road, definitely a roller coaster every day, mentally and physically."

MIA, the fundraiser, was held at Jackson’s Bar in McAllen.

The idea for the event came from another co-worker.

"A colleague at work, we learned that his daughter's stricken with leukemia, we decided to put this together so we organized a bike run," Agent Henry Mendiola said.

Many members of other law enforcement agencies, such as the McAllen Police and the FBI, showed up for support.

"It looks like were gonna push close to $6,000, maybe a little more," Mendiola said.

They hope that they are able to help out young Mia in any way they can.

"This little girl doesn't need to suffer, if we can take a little bit of pain away from her with the monies that we raised today it's all worth it," G.J. Reyna, the organizer of South Padre Island Bikefest said.

He also participated in the organization of the event.

"She's a fighter and she's really, really doing everything she can to fight," Rodriguez said.

They also ask for prayers, not only for her well being, but also Mia's family, to give them strength during this difficult time.

"It's all coming together because of the prayers, the prayers are working," he added.
