Primera city leaders told Action 4 News that their police chief is off the job.

City Manager Javier Mendez confirmed that Primer Chief Mario Leal was terminated from his job Tuesday night.

Mendez said he couldn't go into specifics but said the cause of Leal's termination was  "loss of confidence".

The decision was made at a Primera City Commissioner's meeting on Tuesday night.

City leaders named one police officer as "head of the department" while Mendez will be taking over the department's administrative duties.
